I apparently missed the art contest on GW.com, and didn't see it here, so I thought I'd post it.
Out of curiosity, do the rewards seem a little.....thin to anyone else? I mean, free stuff is free stuff, so I'm not complaining, but the same mini as last year and a headset? It just seems a little lazy.

Hm, separate prizes for the top 3 costumes. That's kind of a neat change. Maybe I'll do some other sort of thing since we've already got our Halloween decorations from last year.

I can't say I'm shocked that they decided to go with the same minipet as last year, but there was part of me hoping they would do something different. An evil bunny would have been cute!
Now I guess I need to decide if I want to go through with what I planned to submit. I know I don't stand a snowball's chance in hell of placing!

In regards to the mini, I'm glad it's the same mini. Fewer "super rare impossible to get" miniatures like Kanaxai and Vizu out and not about.
TBH, I want to see a contest or two where those promotional and exclusive miniatures are the reward.
As to the rl rewards: I don't give a damn. Nuff said. Then again, I would like signed artwork. I mean, I don't think we have any concept art of Thorn, and the Dhuum concept art is pretty badass. Signed copies of those would be epic. And probably more appreciated than a headset or mouse...

Seriously, I would have loved to see more rewards that were related to concept art or their team of artists. To get some hard copies of official art signed by both Docius', Kekai, or Rich and the rest of the team would have been an amazing reward. They definitely went the right direction in prizes last year when they included the GW2 art book. I can only hope in their future art contests, they'll throw some signed prints into the mix.

And I don't care about the headset tbh, but I really want a mini. Sort of prove to myself that I actually gained some artist skills this year And artbook would be nice :3

There are laws regarding free prize contests, lotteries and similar. Is something illegal marketing, is something subject to additional taxation etc. All will be regulated by the state.
Apparently, something in Canadian law requires the test to be a real test of ability or something, so Anet stuffed an actual test of ability into it. I don't know the actual law in this case, but maybe contests of ability are more favourably regulated (no taxes, or no registering with a special office or something).
